On October 26, 2023, the STARLIGHT project hit an important milestone with its 1st Physical Pilot. The aim was to showcase the STARLIGHT tools to Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and gather their feedback for refinement.
Before the pilot, technical partners conducted a training session for LEA representatives, ensuring they were well-equipped to test the tools effectively in practical scenarios.
In 2021, the European Commission set the stage for a transformative journey into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and civil security. The result was the SU (Security Union)-AI Cluster, a collaboration between three significant projects: ALIGNER, popAI, and STARLIGHT. Each project had its own unique focus but shared the mission of reshaping AI's role in European law enforcement, all while upholding the core values of the European Union.
STARLIGHT presented their work during the INFINITY final demonstration event, along with sister project APPRAISE. The in-person event took place on Thursday, July 27, at Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield, UK. After over three years of dedicated security research and development, the INFINITY project has displayed its achievements.
The STARLIGHT Project Coordinator, Dr. Nizar Touleimat, was one of five panellists at the "Cybersecurity of AI and AI for Cybersecurity" webinar on Friday, July 7, organised in conjunction with CLAIRE.
On June 22nd, 2023, the STARLIGHT partner, Pluribus One, hosted its the Second Edition of the Cyber Journey event in Sardinia, showcasing EU-funded cybersecurity research. The event took place at the T-Hotel in Cagliari, Italy, and featured an engaging panel discussion on AI for security and security for AI, with prominent experts in attendance.
The STARLIGHT consortium attended the 5th public workshop of the EU-funded ALIGNER project on June 21st and 22nd, 2023, in Sankt Augustin, Germany. As a key participant, STARLIGHT representatives contributed to the workshop's discussions and shared its policy recommendations. ALIGNER’s advisory boards, other research projects, and individual experts from academia, policy, industry, and civil society also attended.

STARLIGHT was presented at the Research and Innovation Symposium for European SECURITY and Defense (RISE-SD) in Rhodes, Greece, from May 29–31, 2023. A three-day EU research and innovation event in the fields of disaster and crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, border security, and defence research, with an audience including high-level EU representatives, governmental representatives, researchers, industry, practitioners, and European security and defence stakeholders.
